HOW TO STAY PERSISTENT

How many times have you heard that it’s important to stay persistent if you want to achieve great goals? Indeed, occasional success might bring opportunities, but it won’t bring you millions. Yet keeping on track is often easier said than done. We did a little research on the topic and came to the following tips:
  1. Make your goal clear
  2. First, you have to know exactly why you want to keep on track. Write down the goal you aim to achieve and set approximate deadline. Keep this information within eyesight. This might be wall posters, post-its or even automatic reminders in your phone set to catch your eye regularly. To make it even more efficient promise yourself to stare at it for at least 10 seconds every time you see one.
  3. Make your motivation clear
  4. Let’s delve deeper into ‘why’ question. Why do you want to accomplish a task which requires persistence? This is where you understand your motivation. Motivation gives you energy and makes you willing to keep moving forward.
For example, you want to build a website. Both learning web development and implementing the knowledge to build a website take time and patience. However, creating one isn’t the ultimate goal. You need an eCommerce website or an mCommerce app to sell your products and become a millionaire, for example. Always keep the ultimate goal in mind.
  5. Make a detailed plan
  6. Break the goal down into smaller and simpler parts. For each of them, decide on necessary steps and subdeadlines.
  7. Make a backup plan
  8. Life’s not a straight line. It’s full of surprises, good or bad. Once your plan gets hindered by some unexpected circumstances you have to improvise. There is something we need to learn from music teachers: they say, the best improvisation is well-prepared improvisation. Make a backup plan in accordance with your priorities and deadlines.
  9. Keep a positive attitude
  10. The way to success isn’t smooth. In fact, it’s full of challenge, and only those who stand ground despite all can make it. If you fail don’t think of failure longer than required to learn from it. Think of taking actions instead, redesign your plan accordingly and cleave to it. Positive attitude is about doing things rather than daydreaming about future achievements.
  11. Reconsider your social environment
  12. We all live in a society surrounded by different types of people who might have a great impact on our attitude. Take a look around, and, most probably, you’ll see those who undermine whatever you do out of various reasons. We wrote previously about the measures one can take to diminish their negative influence or even benefit from them.
  13. Cut off procrastination
  14. If you regularly find yourself distracted from the goal by unnecessary and useless stuff it means you got caught by procrastination. Procrastination is a widespread disease of our era, as well as one of the most common results that prevent people from achieving their goals. Fortunately, there are measures you can take to fight it down.
  15. Pump up your energy
  16. Finally, persistence is about accomplishing certain tasks on a regular basis. But sometimes we just feel too tired to tackle the next challenge especially when trying to achieve personal goals while working a full-time job.
